What was the most significant cause of the French revolution?
In France from the years of 1789-1799 there were many causes to the French revolution. The primary cause to the revolution was financial debt. The French revolution was the chaotic fight of liberty and rebuilt of monarchy in France. Three main causes that support how financial debt was the main cause of the revolution to occur was how the 7 years war left France bankrupt and hungry, Louis XVI was unfair to the common people, and he recklessly spent money.
First, a way in which the French revolution was significantly caused was the 7 years war. Louis XVI led France into a war that he did not win. Louis XVI lost France all of their money, and he didn't get it back. Also, Louis XVI noticed that he was deep in debt, yet he didn’t make a great effort to return the money back to France. This caused the common people or peasants of France to be deprived of necessities. The monarchy is failing to provide the people which was a great impact on why the revolution occurred. This idea leads into the next major factor why the French revolution was caused, Louis XVI was unfair to the common people.
Another way in which the French revolution was brought on was how Louis XVI was unjust to the peasants of France. A strong aspect of how he treated his people poorly was, he increased the price of bread which was the main source of food for the poor. The poor practically lived off of bread but after a grand shortage of money France’s food supply also decreased. Instead of moving forward, Louis raised the bread cost which caused France to become starving and revolt. Frances money was very little to start and Louis also spent major amounts of money which can be demonstrated in the next paragraph.
The concluding reason as to why the French revolution was brought on was how Louis XVI was recklessly spending money. The war caused France to be in great debt. Louis XVI’s wife, Marie, was spending so much of France's money; as if France wasn’t already in great debt. She spent Frances money on dresses, shoes, and hair instead of necessities for common people. These many reasons caused the people of France to become infuriated and to revolt.
In France during a very long and dreadful period leading from 1778-1779, financial debt was the main cause to the French revolution. The revolution was a like a face lift to France. France’s citizens revolted and rebuilt France making it into a feudal system instead of a monarchy. The most significant movement to the cause of the French revolution was financial debt. The three most moving events that pushed the citizens to revolt was how the 7 years war left France bankrupt and hungry, Louis XVI was unfair to the common people, and Louis XVI recklessly spent money.
